What is FollowSpot Manager, who created it and how did it come into existence? 

This is the story of two very different skillsets uniting to produce a software tool that enables process simplification and constancy to the followspot scenario. 

Knowledge gained through involvement in lighting departments and creative teams of numerous West End shows and theatres, large arena show tours, film works, corporate events and overseas theatre productions, identified a need for a followspot cue creation product. A simpler, consistent and adaptable system was necessary to improve the flow of information through the production process.

The motivation behind FollowSpot Manager, is to create a dynamic tool for the lighting designer, the lighting programmer and the followspot operator. An easy process for cue data input leading to the production of a visual and hardcopy record, ensuring followspot lighting cues are actioned with accuracy and consistency, as intended by the designer.

The combination of LX experience and professional IT design coding and programme development has been invaluable in creating and testing the software

Today’s version of the software, FollowSpot Manager, operates on both Windows and MacOS, is a standalone program and does not require any additional applications in order to function.  It is intended to be utilised by anyone creating followspot cue information for Theatre, Film and Event productions. It allows for easy input of cue data, simple editing, and most importantly the creation of informative PDF’s sent directly to the operator.

In the future we have plans to build on the program and to continue to assist designers and productions on all their followspot needs.
